Podcasting

A podcast is a series of audio files which is distributed over the Internet by download, through feeds, to portable media player and computer. Though the same content may also be made available by direct download a podcast is distinguished from other digital-media formats by its ability to be syndicated, subscribed to, and downloaded when new content is added(wikipedia).
Podcasting is becoming increasingly popular in education. Podcasts enable students and teachers to share information with anyone at any time. An absent student can download the podcast of the recorded lesson. It can be a tool for teachers or administrators to communicate curriculum, assignments and other information with parents and the community. Teachers can record book discussions, vocabulary or foreign language lessons, international pen pal letters, music performance, interviews, and debates. Podcasting can be a publishing tool for student oral presentations. Video podcasts can be used in all these ways as well . Also embedding slides with audio see enhanced podcasts(wikipedia).

AVL

The Alabama Virtual Library is useful to both teachers and students. On the Virtual Library it will provide you with resources and have access to the library. It mainly is for research and it will provide you with magazine, journal and etc. on the subject you are looking for. You can also access this from home but you will need to get an AVL card from your library for you can get a password and log in name. After you have signed up for AVL at home you have plenty of resources for your research.

I think that when look for facts and information on a subject that AVL will be a great tool. Not only do you have just on database you can get information, you have several. You can also choose what school level that you want to find information from. So when i begin teaching i would highly recommend this to my students for a resource if they want more information on a subject.

Mr.Sullivan's Presentation

I thought that Mr. Sullivan gave a good and informative presentation. I like the way that he broke down word instead of going through the presentation not knowing what he was talking about. He had a great tone throughout the presentation, he wasn't shy or nervous. I like the fact that he brought in a hands-on example of what they use to read the screen on the computer. I believe this will become beneficial to me if i had a child in my class that is deaf or blind. I can tell the student about the Magic program for the child can have a better understanding of concept on how to use the computer.

Google Thinking Assignment

I believe the Internet does not change the way that we think. The Internet today is becoming more useful and accommodating. I do believe that it makes us a little lazy because now you can pay bills, do research and many other things on the Internet. With anything that's out there you know that they will be pros and cons. I, personally love the Internet because I can keep in contact with old friends, do research and look to see what's new in the world that we are living in. Basically I believe that the Internet is useful to people today and can be very helpful.

Alabama Learning Exchange

The Alabama Learning Exchange (ALEX) is a database of lesson plans for grades K-12 created and posted by teachers. The database is a searched by traditional subject areas as well as up to date material such as technology and information literacy. The steps to obtain the lessons plans are quite simple. First you go to the website and then click on the lesson plan icon. This will then bring you to a page where you can select the subject and grade level for the lesson you will need. From then it will give you numerous lesson plans that have been designed by fellow teachers.

I believe that the ALEX program will be very beneficial to me when I begin teaching. In case I stumble over a certain subject and I don't know how to fully explain or go about teaching it I can look to find what lesson plan fits me. On the other hand I can post my lesson plan that was successful to me, hoping to give the same opportunity to another teacher.

ACCESS

The Alabama School System has recently put new technology into the high school's classrooms know as ACCESS. ACCESS stands for Alabama Connecting Classrooms, Educators and Students Statewide. What ACCESS does it gives chances to high school students who do not have certain elective and school courses at their school to receive them via Internet from a different school who offers the course. It works by using technical tools to deliver sound courses through the Internet. Then it mix in with the Internet for Alabama Certified Teachers from the delivery school sites to the receiving schools.

The Alabama Legislature passed the Act# 2005-173 in order to have funds to develop and start ACCESS.By the summer of 2006 they wanted about 50% of the Alabama High Schools to have access to ACCESS and by 2007 to have all high school fully furnished with ACCESS. But as many people know that by this year of 2008 all school are not able to retrieve ACCESS in the classrooms.

I believe that once ACCESS has been established in all the high schools statewide that the program will be successful. It will teach students how to learn new technology and to also learn in a different environment. It will also give the chance for teachers have an effect on other student around the state of Alabama. With ACCESS i believe that its helpful and fulfilling to the Students and Teachers of Alabama.
